Our Inspiration
Our sources of ideas and inspiration
We believe that our strength lies in our ability to transcend the boundaries of disciplines and schools of thought. This enables us to perceive the world’s complexity, communicate it clearly and pursue our vision of a world in which all people’s needs are met within planetary boundaries.
These people are all inspiring companions on our journey to find practical ways to achieve our vision. Their ideas help us to develop a deeper understanding of the world we live in and discover alternative ways of living that focus on meeting all people’s needs within planetary boundaries.
The following people and collectives have been a major source of inspiration for us:
- Vanessa Andreotti and Gesturing Towards Decolonial Futures Collective – for challenging the fundamental assumptions of modernity and Western dominance in education.
- Paulo Freire, Pedagogy of the Oppressed, and Stephen Brookfield – for their profound understanding of critical thinking and liberating education.
- Joanna Macy – for bringing together ecology, spirituality, and collective processing of global grief.
- Marshall Rosenberg, Miki Kashtan and the Nonviolent Global Liberation community – for the practice of nonviolent communication, including its systemic and structural dimensions.
- Donella Meadows and Peter Senge – for their approach to systems thinking, working with leverage points for change, and connecting individuals with the system.
- Jason Hickel and the broader degrowth movement – which links ecological responsibility, social equality and quality of life, exploring ways to transition to a new economy based on sufficiency, care and autonomy.
